A WOMAN has died after being hit by a train near a railway station.

The woman, who is thought to be local, was struck by the Bristol to Edinburgh train near Durham Railway station at around 3.30pm yesterday (WED).

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "The incident is not being treated as suspicious. The railway line has been disrupted as a result of the incident."

The incident led to 50-minute delays on the line between York and Newcastle, which lasted until around 6pm.
