THE man injured in Saturday's fatal accident in Bishop Auckland remains in a serious condition.

Father-of-two David Weatherburn, 40, is still in Darlington Memorial Hospital after suffering serious injuries in the collision which killed his close friend Bryan Hardwick and badly injured his two-year-old son Liam.

Mr Weatherburn's family this morning described him as a fun-loving family man who loves spending time with his two sons David, 12, and Kieran, 9.

One relative said Mr Weatherburn loved animals and enjoyed spending time with his friends.

She added: "He would do anything to help anyone."

Meanwhile, Liam is described as recovering well in James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

Any witnesses to the crash on the A688 near South Church Industrial Estate should contact police on 0345-60-60-365 or the accident investigation unit on 0191-375-2159.

Anthony Whittaker, 26, is accused of causing the death of Mr Hardwick by dangerous driving.

Mr Whittaker, of Cheesmond Avenue, Bishop Auckland, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court, yesterday.
