MARKET leader Berghaus has ensured it will be able to continue its operations if it is hit by anything from a computer glitch to a major incident.

IT service provider and consultancy CAT42, based at the North-East Business and Innovation Centre, in Sunderland, has won a contract to provide the outdoor clothing and equipment firm with a business continuity service.

CAT42 will supply Berghaus with everything it needs to continue day-today activities within 15 minutes should their own international headquarters become unavailable.

Carol Averre, facilities manager for Berghaus, said: “The Berghaus headquarters in Sunderland is the hub of a dynamic global organisation, some part of which is active every hour of every day.

“A disruption in operations here has the potential to cause significant harm to the company, so we take business continuity planning very seriously.

“I am delighted that in CAT42 we have found an ideal partner on our doorstep.

“The team there has helped us to develop comprehensive disaster recovery arrangements and has an excellent facility close at hand.

“Of course, I hope that we never have to use it, but it is very reassuring to know that it is there for us.”

Colin Turnbull, CAT42 general manager, said: “It is a common misconception that this type of arrangement is in place in case of a major disaster, such as a fire or a national emergency. The truth is businesses need to be able to continue activity, even if there is just a temporary glitch in their IT provisions, or they cannot access their offices for any reason.”
